A group of Boer Generals: Lucas Meyer, Louis Botha and D. Erasmus in the field. Erasmus, the general on the far right is looking particularly posh. This is somewhat unusual given the Boer tendency to favor utilitarian everyday clothing. We must assume that he dressed up for the occasion of having his picture taken.
Below is a close up of that dapper gentleman, complete with a gold chain for his pocket watch. As an aside, it seems that the practice of wearing wrist watches grew out of the Boer war, since the troops found it too cumbersome to carry their watches in their pockets at the end of a chain.
